Itinerary

Day 1:Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Your Ouarzazate tour from Marrakech starts early as your private driver meets you at your accommodation. Leaving Marrakech behind, the road begins to climb toward the High Atlas Mountains.

As you wind your way through the mountains, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Traditional Berber villages appear on the slopes, terraced fields stretch across the hillsides, and every turn reveals another breathtaking mountain panorama.

Cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Morocco, before descending toward the historic south.

Your first major stop is Ait Ben Haddou, a magnificent fortified village built from traditional earthen clay. Walking through its narrow passages feels like stepping into another era. The ancient ksar has also appeared in famous films and television productions, adding another fascinating layer to its history.

Take your time exploring the old village before continuing toward Ouarzazate, often known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you can visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah and learn about the city’s long connection with international cinema.

After lunch, your Marrakech Ouarzazate tour continues along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Pass through the palm groves of Skoura and continue toward Kelaat M’Gouna, a town celebrated for its fragrant roses and traditional rose products.

By afternoon, you arrive in the beautiful Dades Valley. Surrounded by rugged mountains and green oases, this peaceful landscape provides the perfect setting for your first night.

Overnight: Dades Valley hotel or riad
Meals: Dinner and breakfast

Day 2:Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara

Wake up surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Dades Valley and continue your 4 day Morocco desert tour from Marrakech toward the Sahara.

The road takes you through changing landscapes as the green valleys gradually give way to rocky desert scenery. Stop in Tinghir, where a beautiful palm oasis stretches through the valley.

Soon, you reach the spectacular Todra Gorges.

Towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on both sides of the narrow canyon, creating one of the most impressive natural landscapes in southeastern Morocco. Take a relaxing walk through the gorge and enjoy the cool atmosphere between the enormous rock walls.

After lunch, continue through Tinjdad and toward Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops and beautifully polished stone products.

Then the landscape begins to transform again.

As you approach Merzouga, the first golden dunes of Erg Chebbi slowly appear on the horizon. After hours on the road, seeing the Sahara for the first time is a moment that stays with you.

Leave your vehicle behind and climb onto your camel for a memorable journey across the dunes. As the sun begins to fall, the sand changes color from gold to orange and deep red.

At your desert camp, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner followed by music and Berber drumming around the campfire.

Above you, the Sahara sky comes alive with countless stars.

Overnight: Merzouga desert camp
Meals: Dinner and breakfast

Day 3:Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

Your third morning begins before sunrise.

Wake early and climb a nearby dune to watch the first light spread across the Sahara. As the sun rises over Erg Chebbi, the endless dunes glow with warm golden colors, creating one of the most memorable moments of your Marrakech to Ouarzazate desert tour.

After breakfast, return to Merzouga and continue west toward Rissani.

Rissani is an important historic town and a former center of the Alaouite dynasty. Its traditional souk offers a more authentic glimpse into the commercial life of Morocco’s desert communities.

From Rissani, continue through Alnif toward the dramatic landscapes of the Jbel Saghro mountains. The scenery becomes increasingly wild, with dark volcanic peaks, rocky valleys, and unusual mountain formations surrounding the road.

Pass through traditional Berber villages such as Tazzarine and Nkob before reaching the magnificent Draa Valley.

Here, thousands of palm trees stretch along Morocco’s longest river, creating a striking green ribbon through the surrounding desert. Ancient kasbahs and small villages appear among the palm groves, giving the valley its timeless character.

Later in the afternoon, cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tniffift before arriving in Ouarzazate.

Overnight: Ouarzazate hotel or riad
Meals: Dinner and breakfast

Day 4:Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

After breakfast, enjoy some free time in Ouarzazate or revisit Ait Ben Haddou if you would like to explore more of this remarkable UNESCO-listed site.

Then begin the final chapter of your Ouarzazate tour from Marrakech.

The road climbs once again into the High Atlas Mountains. The journey back to Marrakech is filled with spectacular views, winding mountain roads, traditional villages, and dramatic valleys.

There will be opportunities to stop for photographs, enjoy the scenery, and take a final look at the mountain landscapes that made the beginning of your journey so memorable.

As the afternoon fades, you descend from the mountains and return to Marrakech.

Your 4 Days Ouarzazate Desert Morocco Tour comes to an end, leaving you with memories of ancient kasbahs, mountain villages, dramatic gorges, endless palm valleys, and unforgettable Sahara sunsets.

This is not simply a journey from Marrakech to Ouarzazate. It is a journey through many different faces of Morocco.
