Itinerary

Day 1:Tangier - Chefchaouen

Your 9 Days Tangier Desert begins in Tangier, where your driver-guide welcomes you at the airport, port, or your accommodation. From here, head south into the Rif Mountains, passing through Tetouan’s scenic landscapes and rolling green hills.

By midday, you’ll arrive in Chefchaouen, Morocco’s beloved “Blue Pearl.” This peaceful mountain town is known for its blue-painted medina, which creates a calm and dreamlike atmosphere. After checking into your charming riad, spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace.

Stroll through narrow alleyways lined with handicraft shops, woven blankets, and local art. Relax at a rooftop café overlooking the mountains, and soak in the slow rhythm of this unique village.

Day 2:Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Fes

Leave the Rif Mountains behind and journey toward the fertile plains near Meknes. Your first stop is Volubilis, a remarkably preserved Roman city dating back over 2,000 years. Walk among towering columns, ancient arches, and mosaic-covered floors that reveal Morocco’s deep historical layers.

Continue to Meknes, the 17th-century imperial capital built by Sultan Moulay Ismail. Explore the monumental Bab Mansour gate, admire the grand medina walls, and visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Enjoy lunch in the city before continuing onward.

By late afternoon, arrive in Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart, where a beautifully restored riad awaits you inside the medina.

Day 3:Full Day Guided Tour of Fes

Today is all about exploring Fes, one of the oldest cities in the Islamic world. Your guided tour starts with the Royal Palace gates, then moves to the Jewish Quarter, and into Fes el-Bali, a UNESCO site with over 9,000 alleyways.

Visit Al-Qarawiyyin University, the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the Chouara Tanneries, where leather making has stayed the same for centuries. After lunch, see a traditional tile workshop to learn about Morocco’s zellige art. End the day with a panoramic view of the medina.

Day 4:Fes - Ifrane - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Merzouga

Leaving Fes behind, travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known for its European-style architecture and alpine atmosphere, before continuing through cedar forests near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques.

As the terrain changes, dramatic landscapes unfold. Drive through the Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees stretch across the valley floor, creating a stunning oasis scene.

Pass through Erfoud, famous for fossils and date markets, before reaching Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Here, camels await to carry you across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Watch the sun sink into the desert horizon before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by Berber music around the campfire beneath a sky filled with stars.

Day 5:Merzouga - Rissani - Tinghir - Dades Valley - Ouarzazate

Wake early for an unforgettable desert sunrise. After breakfast, return by camel or 4×4 and begin your journey west. Stop in Rissani, a historic caravan town known for its traditional market. Continue through Tinghir and explore the dramatic Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone cliffs tower above a narrow canyon.

Pass Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for its rose products during the spring season. Arrive in Ouarzazate by evening, often called “Morocco’s Hollywood,” where dinner and overnight accommodation await.

Day 6:Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech

As part of your 9 Days Tangier Desert Travel Itinerary, begin your day by exploring the historic Taourirt Kasbah, a striking example of southern Morocco’s earthen architecture and former residence of the powerful Glaoui family. If you wish, you may also visit the nearby Atlas Film Studios, where many famous international movies were brought to life.

Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most iconic fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through its ancient mudbrick alleys, discover centuries-old kasbahs, and climb to the top of the hill for breathtaking panoramic views over the surrounding valley and desert plains.

After lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The winding mountain road offers panoramic views of valleys and traditional Berber villages. Arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon and settle into your riad.

Day 7:Guided Tour of Marrakech

Today, discover the vibrant energy of Marrakech with a professional local guide. Visit the lively Jemaa el-Fna Square, the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, and the Saadian Tombs. Explore the colorful souks filled with spices, textiles, lanterns, and handmade crafts.

Day 8:Marrakech - Essaouira - Marrakech

This morning, travel west toward the Atlantic coast. Along the way, you may spot goats climbing argan trees, a unique regional sight. Optionally visit a women-run argan oil cooperative to learn about traditional production methods.

Arrive in Essaouira, a charming seaside town known for its blue-and-white medina, historic ramparts, and artistic atmosphere. Walk along the harbor, watch fishermen at work, and enjoy freshly grilled seafood. Explore artisan workshops famous for thuya woodcraft before returning to Marrakech in the evening.

Day 9:Marrakech

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your riad before your scheduled airport transfer. Your driver will ensure a smooth and comfortable journey to Marrakech Menara Airport according to your flight time.

This concludes your unforgettable 9 Days Tangier Desert Travel Itinerary, a journey through Morocco’s mountains, cities, desert, and coast, filled with culture, color, and unforgettable memories.
