Itinerary

Day 1:Marrakech to Ouarzazate – Across the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou

Your 5 days tour from Marrakech to Fes begins in Marrakech, where we pick you up from your accommodation or the airport and set off toward the High Atlas Mountains.

As the road begins to climb, the landscape changes dramatically. Marrakech slowly disappears behind you as mountain peaks, deep valleys, and traditional Amazigh villages appear around every bend.

We cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s most famous mountain roads. Along the way, there will be opportunities to stop, stretch your legs, enjoy panoramic mountain views, and take photographs.

Our journey then leads us toward the historic Kasbah of Telouat, once an important stop along the old caravan routes crossing southern Morocco.

From there, we continue toward one of the country’s most iconic landmarks: Ait Ben Haddou.

This ancient fortified village, built from earth and clay, has stood for centuries and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its narrow alleys, climb toward the old kasbah, and enjoy views across the surrounding landscape. You may also recognize the setting from famous films and television productions filmed here.

As the afternoon light begins to soften, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara.

Dinner and overnight stay in Ouarzazate.

Day 2:Ouarzazate to Dades Valley – Kasbahs, Palms & the Valley of Roses

After breakfast, the journey continues deeper into southern Morocco.

We begin the morning in Ouarzazate with a visit to Atlas Film Studios, one of the largest film studios in the world. The city has played a role in numerous international productions thanks to its dramatic desert landscapes and historic architecture.

We then explore Taourirt Kasbah, an impressive example of southern Moroccan architecture and one of Ouarzazate’s most important historic landmarks.

Leaving the city behind, the landscape becomes greener as we reach Skoura, a beautiful palm oasis surrounded by an otherwise dry environment. Thousands of palm trees create a striking contrast with the surrounding desert.

Here, we visit the beautifully preserved Amridil Kasbah, surrounded by palm groves and traditional irrigation canals. Walking through its old rooms and courtyards gives you a glimpse into the way families once lived in Morocco’s fortified villages.

Our route then takes us toward the Valley of Roses, near Kalaa M’Gouna. During the flowering season, the valley becomes famous for its fragrant roses, which are used locally to produce rose water, cosmetics, and traditional products.

By afternoon, we reach the spectacular Dades Valley, where dramatic rock formations, winding roads, palm trees, and ancient kasbahs create one of the most beautiful landscapes in southern Morocco.

Dinner and overnight stay in the Dades Valley.

Day 3:Dades Valley to Merzouga – Todra Gorge & the Golden Sahara

Today, the landscape changes once again.

After breakfast, we leave the Dades Valley and travel toward the impressive Todra Gorge.

Towering limestone cliffs rise on both sides of the narrow gorge, creating a dramatic natural corridor. Take a peaceful walk through the gorge and enjoy the contrast between the enormous rock walls and the green paths along the river.

We continue east through the palm-filled areas of Tinjdad and Touroug, with time to stop for lunch and enjoy the journey at a comfortable pace.

Then comes one of the most anticipated moments of the trip.

As we approach Merzouga, the landscape begins to turn golden. The first dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon, announcing that the Sahara Desert is near.

You will meet your camels and begin your journey into the dunes.

Slowly crossing the golden sands, you will reach a high dune where you can pause and watch the sun disappear beyond the Sahara horizon.

As darkness arrives, continue to your private desert camp, where a traditional Moroccan evening awaits.

Enjoy dinner, local hospitality, and the peaceful atmosphere of the desert beneath a sky filled with stars.

Overnight at your Sahara desert camp.

Day 4:Merzouga Desert Experience – Nomads, Gnawa Music & Flamingo Lake

Wake early if you wish to experience one of the most beautiful moments of your 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Watch the first rays of sunlight turn the sand from deep orange to golden yellow before returning to Merzouga by camel or 4×4.

Today is dedicated to discovering the desert beyond the dunes.

We head off-road toward remote desert areas and ancient mining sites before visiting a local nomadic community. Sitting inside a traditional nomadic tent with a cup of Moroccan mint tea, you will have the opportunity to learn about a lifestyle that has existed in the Sahara for generations.

The journey continues to Khamlia, a small desert village famous for its Gnawa music. Enjoy the powerful rhythms and traditional songs that reflect the village’s deep African cultural heritage.

After lunch, we continue through the desert landscape and take a walk through a palm grove.

Depending on the season and water levels, we may also visit Merzouga Lake, sometimes known as Flamingo Lake, where migratory birds can be seen during periods when the lake contains water.

After a full day of exploring the Sahara, return to your accommodation near the dunes.

Dinner and overnight stay in Merzouga.

Day 5:Merzouga to Fes – Rissani, Ziz Valley & the Middle Atlas Mountains

Your final morning begins with breakfast before we leave the Sahara behind and start our journey toward Fes.

Our first stop is Rissani, the historic capital of the Tafilalet region and an important trading center in southern Morocco.

Explore its traditional market and experience a side of Morocco that feels far removed from the country’s major tourist cities.

We continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossils and fossilized marble. Visit a local workshop to see how ancient marine fossils discovered in the region are transformed into decorative pieces and works of art.

From Erfoud, the road follows the spectacular Ziz Valley. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint to look down over the enormous palm oasis carved into the landscape by the Ziz River.

After lunch in Midelt, we begin our climb through the Middle Atlas Mountains.

The scenery changes once more as we enter the cedar forests around Azrou, where Barbary macaques can sometimes be spotted among the trees.

Our final mountain stop is Ifrane, a charming town known for its alpine-style architecture, clean streets, and cooler mountain climate.

From Ifrane, we continue toward Fes.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Fes, where your 5 days tour from Marrakech to Fes comes to an end with drop-off at your accommodation or the airport.

Five days earlier, you were surrounded by the energy of Marrakech. Now, after crossing mountains, valleys, ancient kasbahs, and the Sahara Desert, you arrive in one of Morocco’s most fascinating imperial cities.

Your journey ends in Fes, but the memories of Morocco stay with you.

This was one of the best parts of our Morocco trip. We expected the desert to be the main highlight, but we actually enjoyed all the stops along the way, especially Dades Valley and Todra Gorge. Having a private tour made a big difference because we could stop for photos and take our time. The desert camp was beautiful, and the camel ride at sunset was an amazing experience.

Five days was the perfect amount of time for us. The drive from Marrakech to Fes is long, but there was always something interesting to see or a place to stop. Our driver was excellent and shared a lot about Moroccan culture without making the journey feel like a formal tour. The Sahara night was definitely the memory we will take home with us.
