Itinerary

Day 1:Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley

Your 4 days tour from Marrakech to Fes begins in the morning when your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. Soon, the busy streets disappear behind you as the road climbs into the spectacular High Atlas Mountains.

The journey follows winding mountain roads toward the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, reaching approximately 2,260 meters above sea level. Along the way, stop at panoramic viewpoints overlooking deep valleys, rugged peaks, and traditional villages scattered across the mountainsides.

Descending from the Atlas, you arrive at the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village built from earth and clay. Walk through its narrow passages and climb higher for beautiful views across the surrounding landscape. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has also appeared in numerous international movies and television productions.

Continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you can stop for lunch and, depending on your interests and timing, visit the famous film studios or Taourirt Kasbah.

In the afternoon, travel through Skoura and the Rose Valley toward Boumalne Dades. As the road enters the Dades Valley, green gardens contrast beautifully with red-rock mountains and unusual geological formations.

Your first day ends at a charming hotel or riad in the Dades Valley, where you can relax and enjoy dinner after an unforgettable introduction to southern Morocco.

Overnight: Dades Valley
Meals: Dinner & breakfast

Day 2:Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Tinghir – Merzouga Desert

Wake up surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of the Dades Valley. After breakfast, your Marrakech to Fes desert tour continues deeper into southern Morocco.

Travel toward Tinghir, where a lush ribbon of palm trees cuts through the dry landscape of the Todra Valley. From panoramic viewpoints, you can see traditional villages and cultivated fields stretching along the oasis.

A short drive brings you to the spectacular Todra Gorge. Here, enormous limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the narrow canyon. Take some time to walk beneath the towering rock walls and enjoy the refreshing atmosphere before continuing toward the Sahara.

The road then passes through towns and villages such as Tinjdad and Touroug. With every kilometer, the scenery becomes increasingly desert-like until the first golden dunes finally appear on the horizon.

Welcome to Merzouga, gateway to the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes.

Rather than rushing directly to the camp, your first evening gives you time to slow down and experience the desert surroundings. Watch the changing colors of the dunes as the sun begins to disappear, then settle into your accommodation near the Sahara.

Enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening knowing that tomorrow will take you deeper into the desert.

Overnight: Merzouga
Meals: Dinner & breakfast

Day 3:Merzouga Desert Exploration – Nomads – Gnawa Music – Camel Trek – Luxury Desert Camp

Today is devoted entirely to discovering the Sahara.

After breakfast, set off by 4×4 to explore the landscapes and communities surrounding Erg Chebbi. Your first experiences may include the small oasis of Hassi Labied, where traditional irrigation channels help local families cultivate crops in an otherwise dry environment.

Depending on the season and water levels, you may also visit Lake Dayet Srij, where migratory birds can sometimes be seen against the unexpected backdrop of Sahara dunes.

Journey onward to Khamlia, a peaceful desert village where the soulful rhythms of traditional Gnawa music bring generations of cultural heritage to life. Sit down, enjoy the rhythms of traditional music, and learn a little about a cultural heritage with roots in sub-Saharan Africa.

The adventure then moves away from the villages and into the open desert. Pass the old M’ifis mining area before reaching remote landscapes where some nomadic families continue to live.

A visit with a local nomadic family offers a glimpse into a very different way of life. Share traditional mint tea and learn about the challenges and traditions of living far from Morocco’s large towns and cities.

After your 4×4 exploration, return to Merzouga and prepare for one of the most memorable moments of your 4 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes.

Your camel caravan sets off across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As you move deeper into the Sahara, the village slowly disappears behind the dunes and the landscape becomes a sea of sand.

Before sunset, climb a dune and watch the Sahara change from gold to orange and soft red as the sun sinks below the horizon. Take photographs, enjoy the silence, or try sandboarding before continuing toward your desert camp.

At camp, you’ll be welcomed with Moroccan tea before enjoying dinner. Later, gather around the fire for traditional music and drumming beneath a sky filled with stars.

Spend the night in a comfortable private tent with private bathroom facilities—a special ending to your day in the Sahara.

Overnight: Luxury desert camp in Merzouga
Meals: Dinner & breakfast

Day 4:From the Sahara Dunes to Fes – Ziz Valley, Cedar Forest & Ifrane

Your last morning in Merzouga unfolds peacefully as the first light of day slowly awakens the golden Sahara dunes. Wake early if you wish to watch the sunrise over Erg Chebbi, when the first light slowly spreads across the dunes.

After breakfast at the desert camp, make your way back to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, where your driver will be waiting to begin the scenic journey north toward Fes.

The first stop is Rissani, an important historic trading town and former caravan center. If your visit falls on Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, you may have the opportunity to experience its lively traditional market.

From Rissani, continue north through Erfoud, following the road toward the spectacular Ziz Valley, where lush palm groves contrast beautifully with the rugged desert landscape. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint where thousands of date palms fill the valley floor beneath rocky cliffs—a striking contrast after the open landscapes of the Sahara.

Continue through changing mountain scenery toward Midelt, where you can stop for lunch before crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains.

The landscape changes once again as cedar forests replace desert plains. Near Azrou, stop in the cedar forest, home to wild Barbary macaques, and enjoy a short walk among the trees.

Your final stop is Ifrane, a peaceful mountain town known for its alpine-style architecture, gardens, and famous stone lion.

From Ifrane, continue toward Fes as the sun begins to lower over the Middle Atlas.

By late afternoon or evening, arrive in the historic city of Fes, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad.

Your 4 days tour from Marrakech to Fes may be over, but in just four days you will have crossed the High Atlas, explored ancient kasbahs, walked through dramatic gorges, met communities of the Sahara, watched sunset from the dunes, slept beneath desert stars, and traveled from one imperial city to another through the heart of Morocco.
