Itinerary

Day 1:Marrakech to Dades Valley via the High Atlas & Ait Ben Haddou

Your Marrakech Fes desert tour begins in the morning as we leave the red walls of Marrakech and start climbing toward the High Atlas Mountains.

The road winds higher and higher, revealing spectacular views with every turn. Below, green valleys stretch between rugged peaks, while small Berber villages appear to cling to the mountainsides. The road to the Sahara starts here.

Crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, we descend toward the dramatic landscapes of southern Morocco and make our way to one of the country’s most iconic landmarks: Ait Ben Haddou.

Walking through the narrow earthen lanes of this ancient kasbah feels like stepping into another century. Once an important stop for caravans traveling between the Sahara and Marrakech, the fortified village has also appeared in numerous international films and television productions.

After exploring Ait Ben Haddou and enjoying lunch nearby, we continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” The city has become famous for its film studios and striking desert scenery.

From Ouarzazate, the road follows the beautiful Valley of Roses before reaching Boumalne Dades and the spectacular Dades Valley.

As evening arrives, the red cliffs and winding rock formations begin to glow in the fading light. Tonight, you settle into your accommodation surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of the Dades Valley.

Overnight: Dades Valley

Day 2:Dades Valley → Tinghir → Todgha Gorge → Merzouga Desert

Wake up to the quiet beauty of the Dades Valley.

After breakfast, we continue toward Tinghir, one of the most beautiful oasis towns in southern Morocco. From a panoramic viewpoint, thousands of palm trees spread across the valley below, surrounded by ancient villages, cultivated fields, and kasbahs.

The scenery soon becomes even more dramatic as we reach Todgha Gorge.

Towering canyon walls rise on both sides of the road, creating one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Morocco. Take a walk through the gorge, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and enjoy the silence of this remarkable place.

The closer we get to the Sahara, the wider and drier the landscape becomes. The mountains give way to vast plains, and eventually, the first signs of the desert begin to appear.

Before reaching Merzouga, you may stop at a local Berber workshop to learn about traditional crafts and try on traditional clothing for photographs, if you wish.

Then suddenly, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon.

Your luggage is transferred to the desert camp by 4×4, while you begin one of the most memorable parts of the 3 day desert tour Marrakech to Fes—your camel trek into the Sahara.

Slowly crossing the dunes, you watch the desert change color as the sun begins to set. The world becomes quiet, the horizon turns golden, and for a moment there is nothing around you but sand, sky, and silence.

At the camp, a traditional Moroccan dinner awaits. Later, gather around the fire for Berber music and storytelling before looking up at a sky filled with stars.

Tonight, you sleep in a comfortable luxury desert tent in the heart of the Sahara.

Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp, Merzouga

Day 3:From Merzouga Desert to Fes via Ziz Valley & Ifrane

If there is one moment worth waking up early for, it is this.

Before sunrise, step outside your tent and watch the first light appear behind the Sahara dunes. The golden sands slowly change from dark shadows to shades of orange, pink, and gold.

After breakfast, leave the desert behind and begin the final chapter of your Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour.

The journey takes you through the spectacular Ziz Valley, where endless palm groves follow the river through an otherwise rugged landscape. It is one of those views that reminds you how life has flourished in Morocco’s most unexpected places.

As we continue north, the landscape changes once again.

The warm desert gives way to the cooler Middle Atlas Mountains, where cedar forests replace palm trees. Depending on the season, you may even encounter Barbary macaques among the trees.

We then stop in Ifrane, a unique Moroccan town known for its European-inspired architecture, clean streets, and mountain setting. Often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” Ifrane feels completely different from the desert you left earlier that morning.

From Ifrane, we continue toward Fes.

As the historic city approaches, you can look back on the incredible contrast of the past three days—from the mountains of the Atlas to ancient kasbahs, deep valleys, and finally the endless Sahara.

Your 3 days Marrakech to Fes tour ends with drop-off at your accommodation in Fes in the late afternoon.

But the journey is likely to stay with you long after the road ends.
