4-Day Errachidia Desert Tour

Today, the Sahara becomes your playground.

After breakfast, set out by 4×4 to discover the landscapes and communities surrounding Erg Chebbi. Your first stops reveal a side of the desert that many travelers never see.

Visit an old kohl mine, where traditional eyeliner was once extracted, before continuing toward a local community. Over a glass of Moroccan mint tea, you can learn more about everyday life in this remote part of the Sahara and how generations have adapted to its harsh but beautiful environment.

Continue to Khamlia, a small desert village where soulful Gnawa rhythms and traditional melodies reveal a fascinating part of Morocco’s Saharan heritage. The sound of drums and traditional rhythms fills the air as local musicians share a musical tradition deeply connected to Sub-Saharan African heritage.

After lunch at a local restaurant, continue toward a peaceful palm oasis before visiting the seasonal desert lake near Merzouga. Depending on the season and water levels, the area can attract migratory birds, including flamingos.

Later in the afternoon, the experience you’ve been waiting for begins.

Your camel ride begins as you venture deep into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Slowly crossing the golden sands, you’ll watch the landscape change as the sun begins to fall.

Stop on a high dune and watch the Sahara sunset paint the sand in shades of gold, orange, and red.

Continue deeper into the desert until you reach your private camp, nestled peacefully among the golden dunes.

After a traditional Moroccan dinner, gather around the campfire as local musicians play Berber drums beneath a sky filled with stars.

It’s a magical desert evening you’ll remember long after your Moroccan journey comes to an end.

Overnight: Luxury desert camp, Merzouga

Wake early if you wish to experience one of the Sahara’s most beautiful moments: sunrise over the dunes.

As the first light reaches the horizon, the enormous Erg Chebbi dunes slowly change color. After breakfast, return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and continue your Errachidia desert adventure toward the Dades Valley.

Your first major stop is Rissani, the historic capital of the Tafilalet region. Its traditional souk has long been an important center of desert commerce. On market days, the streets become particularly lively, giving you a glimpse into local traditions and daily Moroccan life.

Continue to Erfoud, where ancient fossils are carefully transformed into unique works of Moroccan craftsmanship. Millions of years ago, this region was covered by an ancient sea, and local artisans now transform fossil-rich stone into beautiful decorative pieces.

From Erfoud, the road continues through palm groves and oasis landscapes around Touroug and Tinjdad.

Then the scenery dramatically changes as you reach the Todra Gorges.

Towering red rock walls rise on both sides of the narrow canyon, creating one of southern Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes. Take a walk through the gorge, breathe in the mountain air, and enjoy the contrast between the desert and the lush river valley.

After discovering the dramatic beauty of Todra Gorge, continue through the winding roads toward the peaceful landscapes of the Dades Valley.

Overnight: Dades Valley

Your final day begins with the beautiful landscapes of the Dades region.

Continue toward the Rose Valley, passing through villages and fields where roses have become an important part of local culture. Near Kalaa M’Gouna, local cooperatives produce rose water, perfumes, oils, and other traditional products.

From there, continue toward Skoura, an oasis famous for its palm groves and historic kasbahs.

The road then leads to Ouarzazate, often known as the Gateway to the Desert. If you are interested in cinema, you can visit one of the area’s famous film studios, where numerous international productions have been filmed.

Next comes one of the highlights of the journey: Ait Ben Haddou.

This ancient fortified village, built from traditional earthen architecture, has become one of Morocco’s most recognizable landmarks and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through its narrow streets, explore its historic kasbahs, and climb toward the upper levels for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

After lunch, leave the desert regions behind and begin the spectacular drive across the High Atlas Mountains.

The winding road climbs toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with dramatic mountain views, traditional Berber villages, and plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs.

By late afternoon or evening, descend toward Marrakech.

Your 4-day Errachidia Desert Tour comes to an end when you arrive at your accommodation or Marrakech airport, carrying memories of golden dunes, mountain valleys, ancient kasbahs, and nights beneath the Sahara stars.
