Itinerary

Day 1:Errachidia – Merzouga

Your Errachidia Desert Itinerary begins with a warm welcome at Errachidia Airport (ERH) or your accommodation. From here, the road leads south toward the vast desert landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass through arid plains dotted with palm trees and small villages that hint at the Sahara’s proximity.

As you approach Merzouga, the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi gradually rise from the horizon, offering your first glimpse of the golden sea of sand. The remainder of the day is free to relax at your riad or hotel, enjoy traditional Moroccan cuisine, and soak in the peaceful desert atmosphere before the deeper exploration begins.

Domestic flights from Marrakech operate three times per week (Ryanair), while daily flights from Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc) typically arrive around midnight. The schedule can be adjusted to match your arrival time.

Day 2:Merzouga Exploration

Set out on a full day of desert discovery around Merzouga and Erg Chebbi. Travel by 4×4 across sandy tracks to visit an old kohl (eyeliner) mine, once used for traditional cosmetic production.

Share mint tea and learn about their way of life, shaped by generations of resilience in the Sahara environment. Next, visit Khamlia village, known for its vibrant Gnawa music. Enjoy a live performance featuring rhythmic drums and spiritual chants rooted in Sub-Saharan heritage. After lunch at a local restaurant, explore a peaceful palm grove oasis before heading to the nearby seasonal desert lake, often home to migratory birds such as flamingos.

In the late afternoon, your camel caravan awaits. Ride across the rolling dunes of Erg Chebbi, pausing atop a high dune to witness a breathtaking sunset as the sands shift through warm hues of gold and red.

Arrive at your desert camp nestled among the dunes. After a traditional Moroccan dinner, enjoy Berber drumming around the campfire under a sky illuminated by countless stars.

Day 3:Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Tinghir – Dades Gorges

Wake early to admire the serene sunrise over the dunes before breakfast. After returning to Merzouga by camel or 4×4, begin the journey toward Rissani, the historic capital of the Tafilalet region. Its traditional souk, especially lively on market days offers an authentic glimpse into desert trade culture.

Continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops, where ancient marine fossils are transformed into decorative marble pieces. From here, travel through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad before reaching the spectacular Todra Gorges. Towering red canyon walls rise dramatically above the riverbed, creating one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landscapes. Take time to walk through the gorge and appreciate its scale and beauty.

Day 4:Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Continue through the fragrant Rose Valley near Kalaa M’Gouna, known for its annual Rose Festival held each May. Local cooperatives offer a variety of rose-based products, from perfumes and oils to cosmetics.

Drive through the palm groves of Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Desert.” Here, you may visit the film studios where several international productions were shot.

Next, explore the magnificent Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified clay village recognized by UNESCO. Wander through its narrow alleys and climb to the top for sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.

In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Enjoy scenic stops for photos and lunch while admiring the dramatic mountain scenery and traditional Berber villages along the route.

By evening, arrive in Marrakech, where you’ll be transferred to your accommodation or the airport bringing your unforgettable 4 Day Errachidia Desert Itinerary.
