Itinerary

Day 1:Ouarzazate – Todra Gorges – Merzouga

The adventure begins early in the morning with a private pickup from your accommodation or Ouarzazate Airport. As you leave Ouarzazate behind, the scenery slowly changes, revealing the rugged beauty of southern Morocco.

Your Ouarzazate to Merzouga desert tour takes you east toward the spectacular Todra Gorges, one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Morocco.

When you arrive, step out and walk beneath enormous red canyon walls rising dramatically around you. The Todra River flows through the valley, creating a refreshing oasis between the rocky cliffs. Take your time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, admire the scenery, and capture photographs of this remarkable part of Morocco.

From Todra, the road continues through the palm-filled landscapes around Touroug and Tinjdad. These green oases appear almost unexpectedly in the middle of the dry landscape, showing how communities have created life around precious desert water sources.

After lunch, continue toward the Sahara. Little by little, the landscape becomes drier, wider, and more open. Then, as the afternoon light begins to soften, the first golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon.

You have arrived in Merzouga.

Here, your camels will be waiting for your first Sahara experience. Climb onto your camel and cross the rolling dunes as the afternoon sun creates beautiful shades across the sand. Before reaching your camp, stop on a high dune and watch the sun disappear behind the horizon.

Then continue to your private luxury desert camp.

As darkness settles over the Sahara, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner before gathering around the campfire. The sound of Berber drumming fills the night while thousands of stars appear above you.

Tonight, you don’t simply stay in the desert—you experience it.

Overnight: Private luxury desert camp in Merzouga.

Day 2:Merzouga Desert Exploration – Khamlia – Nomads & Palm Grove

Wake early, because the Sahara has another unforgettable moment waiting for you.

Climb a nearby dune and watch the first rays of sunlight spread across Erg Chebbi. The golden sand slowly changes color as the desert wakes up around you. After breakfast at the camp, your Morocco desert tour from Ouarzazate continues with a private 4×4 exploration around Merzouga.

Today is about discovering the life and culture hidden beyond the famous dunes.

Your first stop is an old kohl mine, where traditional minerals were once collected and used to produce kohl, a cosmetic deeply connected with Moroccan culture.

From there, continue across the desert to meet nomadic families living in traditional woven tents. This is an opportunity to learn about their way of life, how they adapt to the harsh desert environment, and how traditions have been passed from one generation to another. Enjoy a glass of traditional Moroccan mint tea while experiencing a very different side of the Sahara.

Next, travel to Khamlia, a small village famous for its Gnawa musical heritage. Here, local musicians welcome you with powerful rhythms and spiritual melodies whose roots extend across the Sahara and Sub-Saharan Africa.

After lunch and some free time, continue toward a peaceful palm grove and the seasonal lake near Merzouga. When water conditions are suitable, migratory birds, including flamingos, can sometimes be seen here.

It is a fascinating contrast: golden dunes, green palms, blue water, and open desert all in one landscape.

Later in the afternoon, return to your desert camp by camel or 4×4, depending on your preference.

Spend your final evening in the Sahara relaxing beneath the open sky, surrounded by the quiet beauty of Erg Chebbi.

Overnight: Private luxury desert camp in Merzouga.

Day 3:Merzouga – Rissani – Ziz Valley – Ifrane – Fes

Your final day begins early once again with the sunrise over the dunes.

After breakfast, leave the Sahara behind and return toward Merzouga by camel. Your private driver will then continue the journey north toward Fes.

Your first cultural stop is Rissani, an historic town and former trading center of the Tafilalet region. If you visit on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, you can explore its traditional souk, where locals gather to buy and sell spices, dates, textiles, livestock, and handmade products.

The Ouarzazate desert trip now takes you far beyond the Sahara as the landscape continues to transform.

Continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossils and fossil-rich geological history. Visit a local workshop to see how ancient fossils and stones are carefully cut and transformed into decorative pieces and works of art.

The road then follows the spectacular Ziz Valley. Stop at a panoramic viewpoint and look down over the immense oasis, where thousands of palm trees create a vivid green ribbon through the surrounding landscape.

After passing through the valley, continue toward Midelt for lunch, surrounded by the mountains of the Middle Atlas.

In the afternoon, the scenery changes dramatically once again as you enter the cedar forests. Take a short break among the ancient trees and, depending on the season and conditions, you may encounter Barbary macaques moving through the forest.

Then continue toward Ifrane, a charming mountain town famous for its European-style architecture, clean streets, and cool alpine atmosphere. After days of desert landscapes, Ifrane feels like another world.

Finally, continue toward Fes.

By early evening, arrive in Fes and transfer to your accommodation or Fes Airport, bringing your 3 Days Ouarzazate to Fes Desert Tour to an end.

You started among the cinematic landscapes of Ouarzazate, crossed dramatic gorges, watched the sunset over the Sahara, met desert communities, explored ancient oases, crossed the Middle Atlas Mountains, and finally reached the historic city of Fes.

Three days. Several worlds. One unforgettable Moroccan journey.
