Itinerary

Day 1:Leaving Marrakech Behind – Across the High Atlas to Ait Ben Haddou & Dades Valley

Your adventure begins in Marrakech as you leave the lively streets of the Red City behind and start climbing into the High Atlas Mountains.

The road winds higher through the mountains, revealing panoramic views of traditional Berber villages scattered across the valleys. Soon, you reach the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, one of Morocco’s most spectacular mountain crossings.

As the landscape changes, the mountains gradually give way to the dramatic scenery of southern Morocco. Your next stop is Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village rising from the desert landscape.

Walking through its narrow earthen streets feels like stepping into another century. Once an important stop along ancient caravan routes, the kasbah has also become famous as a filming location for major movies and television productions. With a local guide, you can discover the stories hidden behind its walls.

After lunch, continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” If you are interested in cinema, you can make an optional visit to the Atlas Film Studios.

The road then leads through the green Skoura Oasis, where palm trees surround ancient kasbahs, before reaching the fragrant Valley of the Roses.

By late afternoon, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you arrive in Boumalne Dades. Your hotel awaits near the famous Dades Canyons, where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and spend your first night surrounded by Morocco’s rugged landscapes.

Day 2:Boumalne Dades → Tinghir → Todgha Gorge → Merzouga

Morning arrives in the Dades Valley, and your journey continues east toward the oasis town of Tinghir.

Here, the desert seems to come alive. Green palm groves stretch between ancient mud-brick villages, creating a striking contrast with the rocky mountains surrounding them.

Soon, you reach Todgha Gorge, one of the most spectacular natural landmarks in southern Morocco. The canyon narrows between enormous limestone cliffs that rise high into the Moroccan sky.

Take your time to walk through the gorge, breathe in the cool mountain air, and admire the immense walls above you. It is a place where photographs hardly capture the true scale of the landscape.

Back on the road, the journey continues toward Rissani, a historic trading town with deep connections to Morocco’s royal history. If the timing is right, you can explore its traditional market, where dates, spices, and local products fill the stalls.

Then something begins to change.

The landscape becomes wider, quieter, and more arid. In the distance, the first golden waves of Erg Chebbi begin to appear.

You have reached Merzouga.

Tonight, you stay at a desert lodge near the dunes, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and prepare for tomorrow’s Sahara adventure.

Day 3:Merzouga → Khamlia → Erg Chebbi Desert Camp

Today is the day the Sahara truly begins.

After breakfast, you explore the surroundings of Merzouga and visit Khamlia, a small village famous for its Gnawa heritage.

Inside the village, traditional music fills the air as local musicians perform rhythms passed down through generations. It is a beautiful opportunity to experience a different side of Moroccan culture and discover the cultural diversity of the Sahara.

You can then return to your lodge for some time to relax before the main adventure begins.

In the afternoon, you meet your camels and begin your trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Step by step, the busy world you left behind seems to disappear.

The dunes stretch endlessly around you as your camel moves deeper into the desert. Then, as the sun begins to sink, the Sahara transforms. Golden sand slowly turns orange and red, and the shadows of the dunes grow longer.

Eventually, you reach your luxury desert camp.

Your private tent becomes your home for the night. After dinner, gather around the campfire and enjoy traditional Berber music beneath the vast Saharan sky.

With almost no artificial light around you, the stars seem brighter than ever.

For many travelers, this is the moment that stays with them long after the 4 days 3 nights desert tour from Marrakech to Fez has ended.

Day 4:Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Middle Atlas → Fes

Wake up early.

Before breakfast, climb a nearby dune and watch the first sunlight appear over the Sahara. As the sun rises, the dunes slowly change color, creating a peaceful final moment in the desert.

After breakfast at camp, it is time to leave Erg Chebbi behind.

Your journey north takes you through Erfoud, famous for its fossils and prehistoric discoveries. If you wish, you can stop at a local fossil workshop to see how ancient marine fossils are transformed into decorative pieces.

The road then follows the spectacular Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees grow along the river between dramatic canyon walls.

As the journey continues, the landscape changes once again.

The dry desert gradually gives way to the cooler Middle Atlas Mountains. After a stop in Midelt, you continue toward the cedar forests around Azrou, where Barbary macaques can sometimes be spotted among the trees.

It is hard to believe that only a few hours earlier you were watching the sunrise over Sahara dunes.

By late afternoon, you reach Fes, one of Morocco’s most historic cities.

Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour 4 days comes to an end with a drop-off at your accommodation, leaving you with four days of mountains, ancient kasbahs, valleys, music, desert landscapes, and memories from the Sahara.
